4. Quiraing
The name may be odd but the view is the exact opposite. More amazing views await you at the Quiraing. From the parking lot, you can see more amazing Isle of Skye landscapes. For those who want to go a little farther, there is a terrific 4.5 mile hike that will give you even better views.
5. Dunvegan Castle
A tour to the UK will never be complete without seeing any castle. Built on a rocky outcrop on the shores of Loch Dunvegan, Dunvegan is the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland and has been the ancestral home of the Chiefs of Clan MacLeod for 800 years. Award-winning gardens, seal boat trips, cafe, gift shops, and holiday cottages are other things you’ll love about this castle.
6. Neist Point
Another very popular site on the Isle of Skye is located near Dunvegan. Unlike the other spots we mentioned earlier, the Neist Point sees so many people who watch the sunset at the end of the day. So when you come here, expect large crowds of people and an overflowing car park, especially during the busy summer months. Yes, it is worth seeing, but the crowds of people take away from some of the enjoyment. If you are short on time, Brother’s Point is a similar but much better experience.
7. Fairy Glen
Located on the Trotternish Loop, this is another spot that gets overlooked by many visitors and it’s unfortunate that they can’t experience the beauty of this place just because they aren’t aware so were leaving this here. It’s small, quick to visit, and very easy to hike. If there is any place that you could possibly spot a fairy on the Isle of Skye, this is the one.
8. Talisker Distillery
Talisker Distillery is the only whisky distillery on the Isle of Skye. Take a tour, taste some whisky, and bring some home as a souvenir.
9. The Fairy Pools
This is another very popular destination on the Isle of Skye. It’s an easy walk along a series of waterfalls, making it perfect for people of all ages and activity levels. If you are short on time, skip the Fairy Pools and visit the Fairy Glen instead.
10. Elgol
Elgol is located on the southwestern coast of Isle of Skye. It’s another place that very few visitors seem to get to. The coastal views are amazing. If you have the time, day trips from Elgol to Loch Coruisk sound amazing, with stunning scenery and chances to spot wildlife.
How to Get to the Isle of Skye
The fastest way going to the Isle of Skye is via Inverness. These two Highlands towns are just over a hundred miles away. Foreign travelers can book their flights to the Inverness Airport and get on a public transport like the bus or train going to the island and the travel may last for over 2 hours.
The train goes as far as Kyle of Lochalsh, and then you need to catch a bus on to Portree. Or you can go all the way from Inverness to Portree by Citylink bus. Both routes are scenic so you will enjoy either way.
