Invergordon in Scotland is just 24 miles from the city center or Inverness, and it is well known in the UK for its private tours. There are taxi tours and bus tours too, but if you want a more personal experience of the place, then we recommend going to Invergordon by hiring a taxi service in Inverness or riding a bus, then explore the town on your own.

What’s there to see?

Here are 5 tours to take places to enjoy in your Invergordon trip which you can finish in 2-3 days.

1. Cruise Tours

Explore the Scottish Highlands without the stress of navigating on this private full day (usually takes 7-8 hours) shore excursion with round-trip transfer from the Invergordon cruise port. This is usually offered by bus tours. Availing it will save you hours of researching and planning a Scottish Highlands itinerary and go on an action-packed bus tour instead. Starting from Invergordon, travel with ease between dispersed sites including Clava Cairns, Culloden, Loch Ness, Inverness Castle, Urquhart Castle, and Beauty Priory. Dunrobin and its gardens are breathtaking and shopping at the Dornoch village to find something unique to bring home is any lady traveler’s dream.

4. Invergordon Port to Eilean Donan Castle

Scotland surely has tons of castles you should visit and the Eilean Donan Castle is definitely a must-see. This tour is a fantastic road trip heading though Lochcarron towards Kyle of Lochalsh to see the famous Eilean Donan Castle.

As one of the most iconic images of Scotland, Eilean Donan is recognised all around the world. Situated on an island at the point where three great sea lochs meet, and surrounded by some majestic scenery, it is little wonder that the castle is now one of the most visited and important attractions in the Scottish Highlands.

5. Whisky Tours

And like we always say, your Scotland tour will never be complete without tasting an original whisky. Near Invergordon are several distilleries whisky enthusiasts should visit. Three of them are: Balblair Distillery

Founded in 1790, this is possibly one of my favourite distilleries, according to records, this is the fourth oldest distillery in Scotland after Glenturret, Strathisla, and Bowmore, Balblair creates its malt whisky slowly, and it is then matured at the distillery in the traditional dunnage warehouses on earthen floors.

The visitors centre provides a welcoming, relaxed environment in which to enjoy a tasting.

The Dalmore Distillery

Dalmore was one of the first single malts to be exported to all corners of the world. For a period of time through the 60s to the early '00s, it was used as part of a blended whisky. It was then transformed once again, into a prestige single malt whisky. At present, you can taste up to 11 single malts from their core and travel range at £5 per dram. This represents great value as they can retail at up to £175 per bottle!

Glenmorangie Distillery

Now owned by Moët Hennesy, the Glenmorangie Distillery was founded in 1843 with production starting in 1849. Glenmorangie is famous the world over for its whisky with the first exports starting as long ago as 1880. Moving with modern times, the Distillery installed an anaerobic digestion plant in 2017 to process and break down by products such as pot-ale and lees which in turn means the production process is more sustainable. This has removed the need for them to be taken away from the Distillery by tanker for processing elsewhere. A range of Glenmorangie Single Malt Whiskies are available to purchase and try in the relaxed environment of the tasting room.

Where to Stay?

Kincraig Castle

It’s a hotel but its structure makes it an eye-worthy scenery. Kincraig Castle Hotel is a period property with magnificent views, and boasts a central location for exploring the north of Scotland. Kincraig Castle Hotel is set in an elevated position within its own extensive grounds, offering views towards the Cromarty Firth. Originally built in 1800, the bedrooms, guest lounge, traditional bar and dining room all retain most of their original features.

Nearby attractions include Invergordon Naval Museum & Heritage Centre, Invergordon Church of Scotland, and Udale Bay.
