Another busy Inverness weekend has passed and what a weekend it was!
The return of the Inverness Classic Vehicle Show to the city was a great success. The event brings locals and visitors together to appreciate nostalgic vehicles, as well as iconic cars like the DeLorean from Back to the Future.
Along with that, we had Caley performing well against St Johnstone in the Playoff final, Strictly Inverness had the great and the good of Inverness out strutting their stuff to raise a fantastic £180,000 for The Highland Hospice Not only that, The Highland Food & Drink Trail was back doing a roaring trade down by the river – what an asset that has become to the city.
The Highland Business Awards were held at Drummosie Hotel. Well done to the winners and all the finalists.
The Loch Ness 360 finally got a start! A truly amazing event that will for sure grow into a biggy, bringing athletes and their families from far and wide.
The World Cup Downhill at Nevis Range which we had many transfers too. Another amazing event in the Highlands.
Inverness Is Busier Than Ever
What a weekend of business for Inverness and the Highlands with all these events going on, making Inverness and the Highlands a dream destination for visitors as well as a great place to live for the rest of us!
Well done to everyone for making it happen and bringing people out to these great events. We at Inverness Taxis enjoyed the extra business over the weekend and we’re sure the rest of the hospitality sector did as well. And lord knows they are due a boost after the last few years of turbulence. It’s so great to see the city buzzing with life again.
Needless to say, we had quite a few drivers taking Monday off (burnt out).
With this increase in business for Inverness, Inverness Taxis saw an increase in trade over the weekend with people going from A to B for this and that. Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to help everyone who needed to make a journey over the weekend, and that was disappointing for us and everyone who works hard to serve Inverness under our logo.
Inverness Taxis and the Labour Shortage
It’s no secret that many industries in the UK and across Europe are suffering from a shortage of labour, and the taxi and pre-hire cab industry is not insulated from that. The labour shortage has hit us pretty hard, and our driver numbers are down by over 30% from pre-pandemic numbers.
This shortage means that waits at taxi ranks have increased (especially at closing time), and many are having to wait longer when they phone for a taxi or use the Inverness Taxis app to book an Inverness cab. Safety is our highest priority, so these increases in waits for taxis do pose a problem for Inverness Taxis as we take our responsibility to the community very seriously.
There are two things you can do to ease the strain on the taxi industry in Inverness, especially with big events like The Gathering coming up:
- If you order a taxi and find another way to get home, please let us know so we can send that taxi to someone else that needs it.
- Leave before closing time. Leaving the pub/club or event 30 to 40 minutes before closing time will stand you a far better chance on getting home without the two-hour wait.
